Plenty of times we never accomplish our goals, or even relative happiness because we elect to keep our minds congested with futile things.  Not only is this counterproductive, but it also has an effect on those who are around you. It’s important that we don’t contaminate the energy that surrounds us, nor the energy of others.  Though you may not want to believe it, a bad attitude can be contagious.

Don’t Bind Your Mind With Things That Don’t Matter

You should only focus on the things that matter, but never worry about them.  The “shoulda, woulda, coulda’s” of life, events from the past that you can’t change, and failed relationships (whether familial, romantic, business, or otherwise) should no longer matter.  You cannot change any of those things or the events that lead up to those situations, so why waste energy on them?  If there are failed relationships, whose breakup you feel responsible for, then by all means, take the necessary steps to right your wrongs.  However, it’s never necessary to over indulge in apologies. Do what you feel is right.  And, clear yourself of that which is binding your mind, or stifling or stopping you from moving forward — toward the completion of your goals and your happiness.

Serenity

When you refuse to let yourself off the hook or let go of that which you can’t change, the only person who is affected is you.  You can’t move forward and backwards at the same time, so you have to make the decision of which direction you should travel.

It’s All Coming Together Now

When you clear your mind of the dead weight that is holding you back, you’ll see things much more clearly; and you’ll become more able to focus on the bigger picture, or “the prize”, if you will. Things will seem to be falling into place, but the reality is that they were always in place.  The difference is you have cleared the muddy path that that you had created — by decongesting and simply throwing away the things that you couldn’t control.  You have to carefully distribute your light, or you will never see which parts of your life requires your attention, or how much and when.  It’s most important that you pay attention to the things that are going on around you, as they are constituents of your happiness.

Take Control of Your Energy!

Only you can control what occupies your mind.  You can choose to sustain good thoughts, or you can choose to entertain bad thoughts.  One will enhance your life and evolution, while the other will only stymie your growth.  We all have to battle negative energy now and then when non-productive, energy draining thoughts enter our minds.  I consider them tests, and I graciously accept the challenge.  I have an arsenal of deterrents — safe words, chants, and mantras — that cause any thoughts that are not positive scurry away.  Create a method (or methods) that will keep your vibe high enough to repel any negativity.  Understand that you will still find yourself entertaining negative thoughts longer than you should.  Like most habits, this one is also difficult to break.  This is a process that you will spend the rest of your life perfecting, so give your best and never give up.

Protect Your Youth

One thing that keeps me in the land of  of the present is the idea that dwelling on past events, or anything that you can’t change or doesn’t contribute to your evolution, will rob you of your youth.  Staying in the moment, practicing patience (never hurry to do anything) and never taking anything too seriously or personally, will keep you youthful and vital.  Even when you have to omit people and energy from your life, do so without taking it too seriously, or too personally.  Know and understand that you are doing what is best and necessary for you to move on and live a happy and productive life — only you can make that happen.  Don’t become overly consumed with responses, or the egotistic need to make your point.  Keep your focus on the bigger picture: You living your happiest and most productive life.  Wish the same for those you’ve distanced yourself from.

Commitment And Consistency

A very important step in unbinding your mind is committing to yourself.  Choose something positive that you will consistently perform .  Be realistic in making your selection — don’t fool yourself.  Meditation, fasting, journaling, creating lists of personal goals, and crossing them off as you meet them are examples of thing that you can try.  (I’ve tried them all.  In fact, I’m currently doing them all at the same time! If I can do it, anyone can.) When you prove to yourself that you are able to commit to activities that will make you a better person, you’ll find little, or no time to give to things that don’t, or to things that no longer matter.  A huge bonus to this exercise is that the Universe loves to see us meet personal commitments and will reward us for our effort.  You see? All you can do is WIN!

Anything that you give energy to will grow, so be mindful of where you’re shining your light.
